What Is Neuromuscular Dentistry?

Neuromuscular dentistry is unique in that it focuses on the correlation between the muscles, nerves, joints, and teeth. If your teeth occlusion or bite is off, the muscles in your jaw tend to overcompensate, causing tension and pain. The primary principle of neuromuscular dentistry is that the jaw muscles must be completely relaxed in order for the teeth and joints to function properly.

Advanced Neuromuscular Dentistry Treatment

At our Albuquerque dental practice, we utilize the most sophisticated, advanced neuromuscular dentistry equipment available. The process is made as simple and painless as possible.

First, Dr. Wall locates an optimal area of the jaw; then, he uses a device called a Myomonitor™, which emits low frequency electrical impulses, to relax the jaw muscles, increase blood flow, and remove toxins.

Dr. Wall can then easily establish the ideal jaw position. A clear, corrective apparatus called an orthotic is placed in the patient's mouth in order to properly adjust the jaw to that position.

Each patient's neuromuscular dentistry treatment is uniquely tailored to his or her case. Dr. Wall recommends the length of time the orthotic should be worn and advises patients as to whether additional orthodontic treatment is required.
